Password Security Tips | Information & Cyber Security Awareness

Tips on How to Make Your Password Secure and how to keep it safe.

A strong password is must for preventing your online accounts to be compromised.
Follow these tips to make of your online accounts more secure.
  1. Don't use following as your password.
    1. 0123456789 
    2. 123123123
    3.  111111111
    4.  iloveyou
    5. password
    6.  Your Mobile Number
    7.  Your username or email Address
    8.  qwertyuiop
  2. Avoid using personal information like name of your loved ones (Like Mother/Father/Spouse/Pets etc.) Nicknames etc. as your password.
  3. Don't use important dates (Anniversaries, Birthdays, date of Joining for first job etc.) as your password.
  4. Don't use the same password for more than one Online Account.
  5. Make use of upper-case and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters like @,%,$,^,&,# etc.
  6.  If the website supports your regional language then try to save your password in your regional language.
  7. Password length should be minimum 10-12 characters.
  8. Never share your password or OTP (One Time Password) with anyone.
  9. Make use of Two Factor Authentication for Email Accounts and Social Media Accounts. Major of All Email Service Providers and Social Media Platforms provide this facility.
  10. Make use of password manager like last pass.
  11. Use A good Antivirus Software which will keep you safe from Key-loggers and Trojans.
  12. Never save your password on Public computers i.e.; Computers at School, College, Office, Cyber Cafe etc.
  13. Check for SSL Certificate and URL of the website which you are accessing before entering your password.
  14. Make a habit  to change your password after 45 or 60 days.
